Navigating the 2020 Catering Market

2020 was rough for everybody, but the pandemic hit the catering industry especially hard. Due to social distancing regulations, event catering opportunities became almost non-existent. For many small businesses, this was our bread and butter, forcing us to pivot to stay afloat. This left our company and many others in the industry wondering, what's next?

Here at Vancouver Private Dining, we've been able to find ways to operate within our community safely. Upping our health and safety protocols, we've been fortunate enough to still offer a limited range of services. We've also taken this as an opportunity to explore some new ideas. Some of the projects we've worked on so far include

1. Charcuterie Boxes

‍

Sourcing from some of Metro Vancouver's most trusted butchers and cheese artisans, we created charcuterie boxes available for pickup from our East Vancouver kitchen. These premium boxes are stuffed with the highest quality meats, cheeses, nuts, jams, crackers, and dips, all of which were carefully selected and arranged by our professional chefs. It was a new and unique challenge for us, but our community warmly received the boxes

2. In House-Chef Service

‍

‍

Limiting our clients to immediate households only, we've been able to continue our in-house chef services. Since our inception, this has been a fair portion of VPD's business activity, and we are thrilled that we are allowed to continue to bring unique and flavourful meals into our clients' homes.

3. Valentine's Day Pop-up

‍

‍

We were fortunate enough to pair up with Hachiro Ramen Bar to offer a six-course pop-up menu thisValentine's Day. An exploration of Italian and Japanese fusion, we had a full (socially distanced) house that night. Some of the stand-out dishes that night included the grilled Koji branzino and the matcha tiramisu. Check out ourInstagram @vancouverprivatedining for more pictures of these mouthwatering dishes.

Undertaking new challenges has been an exciting and educating process for all of us here atVPD, and we're thankful for our loyal clients who've stuck through it with us. As we move into 2021, we slowly see the light at the end of the tunnel. Across the country, social distancing regulations will ease, and we'll be able to get back to what we love doing the most.
